How Do You Ask Baby Shower Guests to Stick to a Registry?

The question of registry, gifts and guests comes up A LOT!  We understand that when you have taken the time to register your gift preferences at one or more stores, you would appreciate it if everyone got the message and stuck to only the items you registered for when they give you a gift.  While this is a wonderful idea, it is impossible for several reasons:
  • Not every guest will check your registry or even realize you have registered your preferences at a store
  1. The store was out of the one item they liked on your list
  2. Your chosen store doesn't have a location near them (yes, they could go on-line and order, but would they really?)
  3. They give every expectant mother the same gift (think elderly aunts, knitting needles...)
  4. They already know exactly what you need so there is no reason for them to check your registry
  5. They waited until the last minute to buy a gift and ran into the closest store they could find
  6. They didn't get the message where you are registered because it is NEVER proper to list that information on an invitation (we can see your raised eyebrows, so see below) and they didn't ask anyone or were not told by anyone about your registry

The proper way to let people know where you are registered is:
  • Tell them if or when they ask you
  • Tell your baby shower hostess so when guests respond to the invitation, she can rely the information when or if she is asked
  • Tell your mother, your sister(s), your aunt(s), your cousins(s) and they can relay the details when or if they are asked.
